The app

Mainstay is a journaling app for dads. It delivers a daily question, stores your entries, and lets you read them back on the same date in future years. That's the whole thing.

We offer a free tier and a Premium subscription. Features available in each tier are described in the app and on our website. We reserve the right to change what's included in each tier with reasonable notice.

Your content

Everything you write, photograph, or record in Mainstay belongs to you. We don't claim any ownership over your journal entries, photos, or video clips.

By using cloud backup, you give us permission to store and sync your content on your behalf. We will never use your content for advertising, training AI models, or any other purpose beyond delivering the service to you.

Your account

You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. You must be 18 or older to create an account. One account per person.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or are used for abusive purposes, though honestly we don't anticipate that ever being relevant for a journaling app.

Subscriptions and billing

Premium subscriptions are billed through the App Store. Apple handles all payment processing — we never see your payment details. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.

To cancel, manage your subscription in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple per their standard policy.

If we change the price of Premium, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice before your next renewal.

Data and deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete Account inside the app. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

If you cancel a Premium subscription, your account reverts to the free tier. Your entries are not deleted.

Service availability

We aim to keep Mainstay running reliably, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted access. We may occasionally update, maintain, or modify the app. Core journaling features work offline — your entries are always accessible on your device.

In the unlikely event we shut down the service, we'll give at least 90 days' notice and provide a way for you to export all your data.

Limitation of liability

Mainstay is provided as-is. We're not liable for any loss of data, though we take every reasonable step to prevent it. Back up your device regularly — we strongly recommend keeping iCloud backup enabled.

Changes to these terms

If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use Mainstay after that point means you accept the updated terms.
